publisher's note
Dear Readers,
The summer has gone a bit too fast
for me, although I did thoroughly enjoy it. This year was my first “real” summer vacation since Junior High School.
I was forced into some much needed time-off and had the chance to visit the Florida Keys. I moved to St. Augustine from Key
Largo and haven’t been back there for about three years. While much has changed, the real noticeable changes have been
those changes to the environment since my Junior High Summer vacations. It remains a beautiful place but what’s missing
is the abundance of colorful corals, fish and wildlife.
Thirty years ago (that makes me sound so old) you could
jump in the water anywhere, from any beach on Key West and see mass amounts of wildlife. Today, you must charter a boat to
a protected area to get a glimpse of what used to be. This issue’s cover question, “How Does History Effect the
Future?” is a question that I pray visitors as well as Florida residents will ponder.
This issue marks the
close of volume two—our second year of publishing Old City Life Magazine. We have an exciting year planned ahead and
I ask for your continued support, especially for our advertisers. Please help the local independently owned businesses through
this uncertain economy. August 30, 2008 is St. Augustine’s 443rd Birthday Celebration (details on page 24). We have
so much to celebrate, be thankful for, and to look forward to.
Blessings, Yvette Monell, Publisher
